Shellac is an animal by-product of beetles. Shellac is a substance we use to get that shiny, glossy finish on the crunchy outer coatings of our beans. We take great care to try and make our beans as inclusive as possible and we don’t use animal products in out beans, we do use an animal by-product. Sadly, The Jelly Bean Factory jelly beans are not vegan. Vegans however prefer not eat animal by products as sometimes animals end up getting hurt or have to live in un-comfortable living conditions so that we can harvest these items. Vegetarians can eat animal by-products and are fine with these foods as long as the animal didn’t have to die. An animal by-product is something that is acquired from an animal, like honey and milk, but this doesn’t mean the animal has to be killed or harmed in order to obtain it. An animal product is something made from an animal, like meat, gravy or gelatine, and an animal has to die for it to be made. You might be wondering what makes something vegan? Well, vegan friendly food does not contain food made from animal products or by products. Most savoury snacks are coated with milk powder meaning that are not suitable for vegans and a lot of sweet snacks include gelatine, a substance made from animals, meaning it not suitable for vegans or vegetarians. On top of this is also helps you cut down in dairy and encourages you to limit your snacking or switch to vegan healthy snacks.Ī lot of snacks aren’t vegan. You can increase the number of vegetables and high protein meat substitutes in your diet, and it will lead to you gaining more nutrients and vitamins. It can have great health benefits and is a great way to cut red meat, which can cause health issues if you eat too much of it, out of their diet. There are plenty of reasons people go vegan. Veganuary is a pledge people make to go vegan for a month. It’s Veganuary! If you are doing Veganuary or if you know someone who is then you’re probably on the look out for some vegan friendly snacks to munch on.
